Big D & Bubba describe the show as a place listeners can escape the chaos of everyday life for a while, whether they are laughing in traffic or sitting in the parking lot waiting for a conversation to finish.
Big D and Bubba met in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1996, when Big D was hosting mornings and Bubba was hosting afternoons. They quickly hit it off and were paired together on-air later that year.
Big D started in radio at age 14 at a 1,000-watt Christian station in Cookeville, Tennessee. By 17, he had hosted his first talk show, and at 19 he moved into country radio in Billings, Montana.
He met his wife, Kathy, in Billings, and they have two sons, Zak and Gunner. He also spent time in Russia as a high school exchange student and is an instrument-rated private airplane pilot and aviation enthusiast.
Bubba also started in radio at age 14, working a late-night weekend shift at his hometown station in Houma, Louisiana. After high school he moved to Guam and used radio as a way to travel before returning to the United States.
His radio career has included New Orleans, Nashville, Miami, Saginaw, Reno/Tahoe, Lafayette, Tokyo, Detroit and El Paso, along with formats ranging from talk and hip-hop to Top 40, rock and classic rock.
He has three children, Olivia, Ava and Frank, and counts fishing, outdoor sports, cars, scuba diving and aviation among his interests. He has also spent time as a volunteer firefighter and is a private pilot.
Jonathan Shaffer is the show's operations manager and executive producer. He grew up in Knox, Pennsylvania, graduated from Clarion University and began his radio career while still in college.
After working in country and mix radio, he moved to Nashville, worked in sports talk and spent 10 years at 650 AM WSM, the radio home of the Grand Ole Opry, before joining Big D & Bubba.
Carsen landed her first radio job while attending Ole Miss, then moved to New York City to work in television at NBC and MTV before returning to radio.
She is a devoted concertgoer and pop-culture fan with a collection of vintage rock and country T-shirts, and she keeps listeners connected to what is happening beyond the studio.
